Squandered film link

Here is the link to my final production of Squandered, please note there will be some changes to production plans as I have changed certain elements. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihTdiGGVPlc&list=PL48Mz5dGezvEBcawxgJpERKgGbea7BjOp&index=3

Analysis essay

Here is evidence of my analysis essay, which I made in order to understand film conventions and their role in genre to a deeper level. To do so I had to pick four films I was able to compare and contrast from two different genres.I ended up picking romance and horror then one big budget film and a smaller or independent film.Hopefully this will have a large impact on my film production as it will allow me to have a deeper understanding of genre conventions and how they can be subverted or conformed to when creating my own production film.   Fictional films, or often known as narrative films are productions created through the use of imagination. Generally, not based on real events however often portraying a sense of reality. There are many different formats of fictional films, format meaning the size and how a film was produced. For example, ranging from a Hollywood film, which usually has a large-scale budget to an amateur film which is typically on a smaller scale and usually made...

Evidence of using lighting technique

Image
Although the majority of my film was shot using natural outside lighting, when it came to filming some of the inside scenes i required some brightness,I attached a small light to the camera in order to achieve my desired look.I felt it was important to get the level of brightness just right as I didn't want to come across to harsh.

Evidence of using clapper board

Image
Here is a photo of the clapper board I used in production, clapper boards are used to mark what shot you are shooting and what particular take which keeps things organised and makes the editing process later smoother as you can work out what shoot you are watching.

Evidence of recording sound

Image
This picture shows evidence of me recording sound for my voiceover in my film.By attaching a mic to the camera i was able to get a clear audio. However I also tried to record on my phone to see which would sound better but i found it was clearer using the cameras mic pictured here.

Raw footage log sheet

Image
This post is evidence of a video log i created, below you will find a sample cut.Log sheets are useful as they note down the footage all together in one document, so even if you don't use a shot you know you still have it incase of an emergency or needing backup footage.

Evidence of using software

Image
Here is evidence of me using Adobe premiere to edit my film, i opted to use this software over others such as iMovie as it offers a variety of advanced tools that made editing and constructing my film easier and more professional looking. It was fairly easy to learn how to use through YouTube videos and i was able to pick up the basics from just exploring the software.

Evidence of editing sound effects

Image
This photo shows me editing sound although below it shows a sound bar running all the way through, I later changed it and cut the sound. I had to do this as i added a voice over and both together sounded too distracting therefore I faded out the music. Sound is important as it can easily add or take away from a scene, for example if a sound is too loud it can be overpowering and ruin a narrative or if a sound is too quiet or placed over a clip badly it can be confusing or even pointless.

Evidence of constructing titling

Image
Here are some screen grabs of titling I put at the end of my film, I also added a production logo to make my film recognisable. By using titling I hope to give my film a more professional, I also didn't want it to take away or shift focus from my film so I made the decision to put them at the end apart from the production logo. Design wise I wanted to make my text stand out, so I went for contrasting colours and a large font to achieve it.

Evidence of editing/use of genre conventions

Image
Here are pictures taken of my film in editing which highlight genre conventions of horror. My film requires suspense so by the narrative of the character texting someone unknown this was easily included as well as I've previously talked about the use of a dark filter. Typically thrillers have someone looking lost or confused or even running in suspense, which my film also does.

Evidence of creating pace

Image
Here are my clips altogether and evidence of my pacing. Correct pacing makes sure a film flows and clips don't cut too quickly or at the wrong time. Although most of my individual clips are short certain ones are longer as I wanted to focus on specific things such as when my actor was using the computer. However certain clips are intentionally placed and cut short in sequence as to create tension as my film is a thriller.

Evidence of continuity

Image
Here is evidence of me creating continuity in my clips, by editing two together to create a smooth transition. Therefore allowing the narrative to make sense and flow, giving a clear structure. By making my film easy to follow it gives the audience chance to really watch and understand what is happening.

Evidence of editing filters

Image
These images show how I edited a black and white look to my film with adobe premier. I decided to use an effect as they help create tones and can change the feel of a shot. Since my film is a thriller I wanted to create a mysterious and suspenseful feel, which I felt I was able to achieve with removing the colour and creating an eary film.

Evidence of sourcing royalty free music

Image
Here I have a website where I found music to use in my film. It was important I found copyright free music as I wished to avoid being sued and potentially lose my film over copyright laws. The website allowed for specific searching and categories which made it easier to search for music to fit my thriller genre. It was important I picked an audio that really fit my film as it would be non-diegetic and played over the clips so it would be heard clearly with no other noises. .

Evidence of importing footage and organising

Image
Below I have copied in images of my imported footage as well as evidence of the folder I created to organise my clips. I created the folder called "raw" to store my clips and enable me to keep them getting lost with my other documents. However to do this I had to use a cable and upload my footage off my phone to the computer. Before making it to my raw folder I had to sort the clips into folders of what I wanted to keep or discard, a lot made it into the keep folder as although I might not use it its useful for backups or outtakes. Being able to organise my clips is essential as it allowed me to access things easily and not have to search for things.

Evidence of uploading onto youtube

Below is a screen grab of my film after uploading to YouTube. By uploading publicly, I have made

Action plan

Here is evidence of my action plan which has everything written needed during the preproduction process. Which is basically everything a producer needs to create a film successfully, including rough times on how different things take, helping the film producer and crew stay on track for filming. If an action plan is not completed then I may fall behind or forget a task that needs doing which could potentially delay when my final film is produced by, this is why most producers include an action plan when creating a film.
